country fire authority (victoria) - gembrook brigade
cfa logo

i've been a member of gembrook brigade since may 2004. gembrook brigade is staffed by approximately 30 local trained volunteers ranging in age from 16 years to 65 years. we have three vehicles, our first response is an isuzu tanker, our second response unit is a ford f350 tanker and our support vehicle is a ford rodeo.

the area covered by gembrook brigade is approximately 550 square kilometres extending 2 kilometres on the gembrook side of cockatoo, 15 kilometres towards launching place, a similar distance towards pakenham and a substantial area to the east of gembrook.

gembrook brigade is the only rapid response service in the immediate gembrook area with the nearest additional fire fighting services at cockatoo 6 kilometres away. the nearest police and ambulance are at pakenham 16 kilometres to the south west and emerald 13kms to the north.

i've finally received recognition for most of the cfs training i've completed, which surprisingly hasnt been an easy task. with some additional training i've done since moving my afac/cfa qualifications are as follows:

country fire service (south australia) gumeracha and district brigade
cfs logo

when i lived in south australia, i was a firefighter with gumeracha and district country fire service brigade, holding the positions of lieutenant 2 and brigade training officer.

gumeracha district is one of eight brigades in the gumeracha group servicing the torrens valley between hermitage and birdwood. gumeracha supports the gumeracha township and surrounding district which includes a hospital, nursing home, primary school and a large rocking horse. gumeracha is a caba brigade. the nearest rcr brigades are birdwood and lobethal. lobethal is also a dual cfs/ses brigade.

cfs respond to many types of incidents often requiring specific training. since joining the cfs, i've been lucky enough to attend the following cfs training course, many of which result in accreditation:

  • firefighter level 1, 2 & 3
  • compressed air breathing apparatus
  • compartment fire behaviour (qfr105)
  • chainsaw safety (rtc2304a is a nationally accredited unit taken from the amenity horticulture training package rtf03)
  • ics strike team leader
  • ics sector commander
  • bsz404a train small groups (one unit from certificate iv in assessment & workplace training)
  • bsz401,2,3a workplace assessor (three units from certificate iv in assessment & workplace training)
  • introduction to gps
  • crash scene management
  • grn (government radio network) base, mobile and network
